A great book for young readers- it doesn't glorify or sugar the actions of war and gives a good introduction to Gettysburg. I'll be looking for this series again.

This book was about a boy named Chigger O'Malley who lives with his mother during the time of the Civil War. They are living in Virginia and and for the Union. The Confederacy is retreating from the Battle of Gettysburg and Chigger is waiting for the Union to attack. He's debating whether or not to go fight in the war. He either goes and fights for revenge of the death of his brothers and father or he stays with his mom because he is the only thing that she has left. They are forced to take in and care for a wounded Rebel soldier. I thought this book was really good. It made me realize how messy and poor the Civil War really was. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to see what the war was really like.
