Hot shot lawyer Thaddeus Ziemann thinks dessert chef Odessa Wilkes should stick to baking cupcakes. He wishes her best friend; Maggie would busy herself with taking another community college adult class on Knitting for Fun and Profit. The two amateur detectives are screwing with his case. Ziemann's been hired to defend Bebe Dunn, a sous chef at Odessa’s family restaurant, against the charge of murder. Despite resistance from Ziemann, two New York City police detectives, Maggie and Odessa are determined to help Dunn. Their biggest obstacles are a bodyguard with boundary issues, his egomaniac music promoter boss and Cherry.
Sherrilyn ‘Cherry’ Turnbull could clear Dunn’s name but first she wants to get paid. Maggie would prefer she’d tell the truth and go away. Odessa wants to take the wannabe video vixen and rearrange her chromosomes with a rolling pin until she resembles a decent human being, instead of a manipulative, money grumbling opportunist. Finding her could be both difficult and dangerous
"Chasing Cherry" Reviews
First, this is definitely a stand alone book, you don't have to read the first ones to be able to read this one. I had no idea what to expect. This book was AWESOME. I laughed so much people were looking at me funny. And I couldn't put it down. I just had to keep reading. I love Maggie and Odessa's relationship. Oh my gosh it was just such a good read. The situations they got in were just crazy. I loved it. Now I want to go back and read the first ones. I cannot say enough how good this book was.
Chasing Cherry by Jill Brock A Maggie and Odessa Mystery. This is the fourth book in the series. It's the first one I read. It is a mystery that the ending we find out in this book. No cliff hanger. I enjoyed reading it. I thought it was a little long in some sections.
I received this book as a promotion from the author and it was an okay read. I would rate it more at 3.5. I have to admit I never read the first 3 books and I think I would have understood a few of the characters a little bit better. I didn't get Odessa's boyfriend Lee. He seemed to run from everything because he didn't want to talk about anything important. Maggie and Odessa are a fun pair of amateur sleuths and get into some crazy situations. Overall, I liked it but didn't love the characters enough to start at the beginning of the series. I would recommend it for a quick and fun read.
Chasing Cherry is the fourth book in the Maggie and Odessa mystery series by Jill Brock. Ever since Odessa was dismissed from an advertising job and became a dessert chef, life has been anything but mundane. Maggie is a practicing P.I. that voluntarily gets involved in situations. This time the situation is closer to home. Bebe Dunn, the sous chef at Odessa's family restaurant, is charged with murder. Hot shot lawyer Thaddeus Ziemann is hired to clear Bebe's name and wishes the two amateurs, Maggie and Odessa, will stop interfering with this case. Ha! Good luck with that one, Ziemann.
Maggie and Odessa are determined to help Bebe and find the real murderer. Too many obstacles are in their way: lack of criminal law knowledge, a scary bodyguard and his music promoter boss, and Cherry—the only woman who can clear Bebe's name. Chasing down money-hungry Cherry is dangerous and difficult. But it is all worth it to help their beloved Bebe Dunn.
Chasing Cherry is another great addition to the Maggie and Odessa mystery series. Ms. Cupcake and Weather Girl are a hilarious pair. Their chemistry is undeniable. Their antics kept me entertained and flipping the pages. Jill Brock's writing has a way of transporting you to fiction world. I'm looking forward to the next installment, especially after the semi-cliffhanger. Nice writing, Jilly!
