Until the dreams began, she was just Emma Ricci, the adopted Korean child of American parents and recent graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology. She didn’t even know demons existed until she met Li Bai and Zhan Ziquian, who told her she’s destined to be a hellgate closer. Now she’s M, a member of an ancient order of warriors—and her missions are more dangerous by the day.
M travels to China to return a hellgate key to its repository in the Yellow Mountains. In China, she learns the secret origins of her warrior line and searches for her long lost twin sister.
Meanwhile, in Paris, a crazed university professor summons a ghost-like succubus to the Sorbonne campus. M arrives with Zhan, Li Bai, and her loyal hellhound, Blue, to drive the succubus back to where she belongs and rid the Paris catacombs of its demon infestation. The struggle takes M and Blue straight to hell, revealing unexpected allies and horrible new enemies. If they’re lucky, M’s powers will bring them back. As M learns in China, however, even hellgate closers can’t always stem the demon tides. Most die trying, and this fight might spell the end of M.

Mark William Hammond offers up an original and thrilling story with “M in the Empire of the Dead: Book 2.” This book provides an intriguing storyline with excellent characters that continue to evolve and develop. I didn’t know what direction the story was going to go and that’s why it was great to read. I highly recommend this book as M is continues on her journey as the Hell Gate Closer on earth. M and her team, which includes her Hell Hound, Blue, keep the reader wanting more. A definite must read!

The attractive cover of this book caught my attention in the first place. The title is attention seeking and capable enough to pick this book up. The intriguing plot and engaging narration with compact story line made this book a fast and pleasing read. Loved it to the core. Much recommendable this one is. Thank you.

It took me a while to read this book. It's written in present tense third person, which I've never actually enjoyed. The book moves fast enough, and I am glad I finished it, but it didn't really keep my interest. I know I'm missing some backstory having not read the first one, though the premise is easily had. It's an interesting story, all in all, but not as engaging as it could be.

Love it!
This is the second book of this series I have read. Both were action packed and well written. Looking forward to reading the next!

I am just starting in this genre of books so I did not know what to expect. This is book 2 of the series so I do not know what I missed in the first book. The girl Emma has her life all planned out and then she has a change of destiny and has to become M the warrior. She has to be the last light bringer and hell gate closer on earth. She goes through a lot of adversity and the book has a lot of action in it. Somehow she gets back form hell to see her friends again. This book is well written about a topic I have not read much about. I do not know if this book has any more sequels to it.
