Is that how a little girl sits?
How should a little girl sit?
Shoulders back and tummy in.
And how should a little girl look?
Always neat and pretty
That’s my girl.
Twenty-four-year-old Alexa Kennedy is beautiful, sharp as a whip, and at the top of her medical school class. She’s also been waging a war in her head for as long as she can remember. Depression. Hatred. Self-loathing. These feelings feed the pain inside her, fueling her quest for a perfection that she can never achieve.
In one life-changing moment, Dex Blakewell crashes into her world. Dex is funny, gorgeous, and irresistible. He chases away the darkness and fills her with light and laughter. An unusual friendship blossoms, making no demands or expectations.
Friendship turns into an unexpected love and a delicious passion. Alexa realizes that the only thing tethering her to sanity is their connection. But even Dex’s strength can’t keep her demons at bay forever.
When life overwhelms her, the outside world starts to mirror her inner turmoil. And when Dex discovers she’s been keeping horrible secrets, will she finally shatter or find a way through the darkness? Will the promise of love be enough to save her from self-destruction?
***WARNING: This book is for mature audiences and deals with topics and situations that some readers may find deeply emotional. That being said, I hope that many may find inspiration from these words. ***
"Keeping Secrets" Reviews
★★★★! Keeping Secrets (stand-alone). An unlikely friendship between a med student & hedge fund manager blossoms into romance before being clouded by secrets!
Keeping Secrets (stand-alone) is a beautiful story, a mixture of suspenseful romance and erotic tale with a touching and enlightening plot on the topic of mental illness, what exactly to unfold with story. From onset it is clear that both med student Alexa Kennedy, Stats and hedge fund manager Dex Blakewell are keeping secrets.
They meet under less conventional circumstances when Alexa comes crashing into Dex’s carefully organized life while in route to see a dying patient. When their paths cross again a friendship develops that blossoms into a romance But their future is clouded by the secrets they both guard, Add to that that someone set on ruining Alexa’s chances of graduating Valedictorian.
Seven words to describe Dex Blakewell: Charming, chivalrous, loyal, nurturing, secretive, successful and determined.
Seven words to describe Alexa Kennedy, Stats: Conflicted, strong, smart, naïve, secretive, detailed, broken and resilient.
Keeping Secrets, told from dual POVs, is emotional sometimes dark even hopeless at times. In true Lisa Eugene fashion this is a medical romantic suspense that touches on a serious topic and the stigma attached to it. Epilogue some twelve years into the future is perfection through and through!
Thought provoking, emotional and intriguing plot! Heart-melting hero!

"So many secrets. Mine. Yours. We try to protect ourselves from the very people who only want to save us.”
What a great story! It was sweet, emotional, intense and hot!! I had so many feelings while I was reading this book.. there were moments where I was laughing and others that I was ready to cry. The characters are so lovable and realistic and the story touches some serious issues.
Alexa is a medical student who when she is on her way to the hospital has a car accident involving a man she thinks is a jerk. Due to an emergency she must go but still they must meet again because of the car accident. Soon these two will meet again and they become friends... But this isn't enough because the chemistry between them is so intense that they cannot deny that they feel more than being only friends..
Alexa is vulnerable, smart, sweet and funny. While you read more you learn about her childhood. Dex has his own problems to deal with.He is funny, super hot and protective. The characters are not perfect, they have issues and they find in each other what they need to heel.I loved their connection starting first as friends!
Lisa did an amazing job in this book, I love her writing and found many quotes that I loved and marked them on my kindle. This story isn't just about the sex it's much more and you should definitely check it out!!

The kind of love that saves you from yourself...
KEEPING SECRETS is an erotic contemporary romance that is unlike anything you've ever read. It is a book that will touch your heart and move your soul.
More than anything, though, this is not just a sexy, contemporary romance, I hope to give you a glimpse into the life of someone who suffers from chronic depression, who is tormented by her distorted image of her body, and who has an eating disorder.
Mental illness touches all of our lives in one way or another. I believe there should be more tolerance and understanding towards these disorders that affect so many, and I hope to help increase awareness and decrease the stigma that prevents so many from getting help.
This love story represents hope, shows the resiliance of the human spirit and our never-ending fight to survive despite the obstacles--internal and external. Alexa finds strength not just in Dex's incredible, unwavering love, but through him, she finds power in herself.
Overall Opinion: This is a hard book to review. I felt like it was well written, and it addresses the big issue of people with mental illnesses being stigmatized. Did I like the characters? Yes. Did I feel like I was rooting for their relationship to succeed? Yes. Is this a book that I'll read again? No. I also don't think this would be the book for everyone. Don't get me wrong -- there are some light moments that made me smile and swoon at times, so it's not All sad...but it is covering some tough subjects. The times that the h and H interacted, and just their overall relationship (best friends first before lovers type that can spend every waking minute together and enjoy it) dynamic is what made it a 4 star rating for me.
Brief Storyline: This is Alexa and Dex's story. They meet when Alexa crashes her Dad's car into Dex. After Dex tracks her down to get her information, they end up building a fast friendship. They spend more and more time together whenever they can, and end up changing their relationship and falling in love. Alexa is struggling with medical school among other things [spoilers removed], and is keeping some big secrets from Dex. They have some hard times, but do get their HEA.
POV: This alternated between Alexa and Dex's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. It was heavy so I personally slowed down a little, but I wouldn't say the the writing caused that -- it flowed well.
H rating: 4.5 stars. Dex. Almost perfect. He only had a few moments that I wanted to shake him, but he more than made up for them and acknowledged his own mistakes (which is sometimes rare with our alphas). I loved how devoted he was to Alexa, and how he changed throughout the book because he had found his other half.
h rating: 4 stars. Alexa. Poor Alexa. She sure had a hard upbringing. She had some really crappy parents that ended up doing more harm than good with her. She has struggled through her life, but we get some hope for her with the end and the epilogue.
Sadness level: Moderate/high. I cried some with this book. It does cover some hard issues that make it emotional.
Heat level: The couple have great chemistry and have some steamy times.
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW/OM drama: Not really[spoilers removed]
Sex scene with OW or OM: Yes [spoilers removed]
Possible Triggers: [spoilers removed]
Closure: Thank goodness for the light and happy epilogue! It gave us some good closure and the couple got their well deserved HEA.
Worth the $?: I paid $3.99 on Amazon, and I'd say it was worth it.
Lisa Eugenes kepping secrets had me glued to my kindle for hours i could not stop reading. I was very exited to read this book and im glad i did .I've never read a story like this dealing with such a serious topic but still be funny and have a good romance .I dont like to go in to details on the books i read becuase i dont want to give anything away but if you read this book i think you will really enjoy it also.
Probably ranks right up there with one of the best books I've read this year! So amazingly heartfelt! This one really got to me emotionally. I found myself tearing up quite a few times. I need sometime to reflect on this one, however, before I write my review. I will say this, though, the writing was stellar! I high-lighted so many passages on my iPad, and I re-read so many paragraphs. That's how I knew the writing just captured my attention completely. This is one that did not disappoint. I loved it!
