After reading the first chapter I had to double check this wasn't Alex Lidell Power of Five fan fic... It just kept reading like a rip off of Power of Five. You have 4 fae warriors that have been together for centuries, one of them is a really quiet one named Cole and a boisterous one named Tyler, just like Power of Five... The world is called Lunaria, while Power of Five is in Lunos... In both stories, the 4 fae warriors seek out a prophesized special human women... In both stories, they are battling the demons/Mors that are getting into their world from another dimension. The warriors need to bring the human back to their realm for training, just like in Power of Five. The one big difference is that "Guardians of the Fae" is a lot more over the top and superficial. I think at this point I'm going to DNF.

Guardians of the Magic by Elizabeth Hartwell a five-star read that you will want to guard. What a read, you will get sucked into the world and come out blinking at the end wondering where it went. Eve was such a strong character, you will feel her power coming off the page. What a great new adventure for this author, I for one can’t wait to see where this series will go.

Oh, My
Faeries, demons, vampires and shifters. Oh, my! That was FANTASTIC. What is Eve Carter? She's a paranormal detective and so much more. She's dedicated, honest, and oh so deadly. Great beginning to what I'm sure will be a great series.

Okay, so I *really* wanted to like Guardians of Magic. It has so many elements I absolutely love! Fantasy? Check. Supernatural? Check. Vampires? Check. Hot men? Check, check, check, and check. Unfortunately, I only made it 55% thru the book before finally throwing in the towel and giving up.
Eve, a Para Detective for the 54th Precinct is on the hunt for a serial killer she assumes is a vampire, tho the victims while drained of blood, do not have the telltale fang puncture marks. Whilst investigating, she runs afoul of a vampire she suspects might either be the killer or knows who may be. Just before she gets really harmed, four hunky men appear from out of nowhere and not only kill said suspect, but tell her that she is not entirely human either, and her very existence is causing a major shift in the veil between her world and theirs. Finding out that she is half fae and half human explains a lot to Eve, especially in regard to recent events. Tho, she is slow to come to terms with her new heritage, and the instant attraction she feels to the four fae warriors who have sworn to protect her until they can take her back to their world with them for training in order to harness her massive (and unheard of in a halfling) anomalous powers.
This book has so much potential, but suffers greatly from poor editing, and continuity issues. I confess that first person writing drives me up the wall, and is usually a huge deterrent. But, if done well, I can look past it. Unfortunately, the first person voice is inconsistent and makes things a bit confusing in several places. Also, one of the guardians is supposed to speak formally, quite similar to an Olde English dialect where they say “thee” and “thou” a lot. The problem here is that even tho it is brought up on occasion that he speaks this way, he only uses this pattern once, and also incorporates contractions in his speech in such a juxtaposition with the formal nature of the dialect he is described as using.
Again tho, I must point out that this book absolutely has a ton of potential. And, if I ever get word that the book has been revised and edited properly, I would jump at the chance to read it again (provided that the POV changes from first person as well). Well, as long as the book does not end in a cliffhanger, of which I heavily suspect it does. But this is simply a guess, since I did not finish the book in the first place.
As with all my low scoring reviews, this is merely my opinion. I do encourage you to form your own opinion. And, if your take on the book is different than mine, I am quite happy for you.

Oh.My.God!! What a book.
I must admit that I have never read a paranormal romance as they have never interested me before. Boy, am I regretting that now!
For obvious reasons this book was so different to anything I have ever read. This was a story filled with mystery, intrigue and lots of suspense. It took a while however to acclimatise myself to this fascinating magical world and its different kinds of paranormal beings but I was quickly fascinated, captivated and I plunged straight into this story. I devoured this in one sitting - I simply could not get enough!!
The plot is so unbelievably thrilling, suspenseful so that it is practically impossible to take the smallest break whilst reading. It made me hold my breath on several occasions!
Eve, the heroine in this book, is a detective in another division of the police who polices the Old Haven where the paranormal live and the vampires go against the law. Jacob, Noah, Cole and Tyler are part of the Queen’s Guard who are tasked to find Eve and find and discover her mysterious powers.
As she battles the vampire uprising who are dead set on going against the law, someone behind the scenes is doing what they can to see her dead. As the hotness between the four Fae and Eve hots up, the world explodes as vampires come out to fight with their Lord, when an even more powerful demon appears (whose identity I never saw coming!) and a huge battle commences.
I was on tenterhooks to discover who was plotting against Eve. I had my suspicions but was completely wrong!
In the end this finished with a heart stopping cliffhanger. I, for one, simply cannot wait for the next book as it can only get better.
I was gifted an ARC for my honest review.
